OK, with the increased availability of high-res audio files, I decided to take the plunge and buy some. I was able to score a studio-quality DAC on eBay cheaply (primarily because nobody uses Firewire any more!). The DAC will work with a G3 processor! So, I’d much rather hook up my iBook than my Quicksilver tower to the stereo.
The problem is that iTunes 2.0.4 (the last OS9 version) doesn’t support high-resolution files! When I import a 96 kHz/24-bit file, iTunes doesn’t acknowledge the actual settings, and “thinks” it’s 37.5 kHz, 16-bit. The playback is hilarious but useless.
Is there some piece of software that will properly recognize and play back 96 kHz (and I may eventually also buy some 192 kHz tunes, just to say I’ve done it) files?
Thanks!!
